GM Shahriyar Mammadyaro wins Tal Memorial Blitz

Azerbaijani GM Shakhriyar Mammadyarov  has become the winner of Tal Memorial Blitz tournament held in Moscow, Azertac reported.

Mammadyarov claimed the title after scoring 7.5 points. The prize fund of the tournament was $200,000.

Armenian Levon Aronian ranked second, while Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi finished third.

Mammadyarov is a two-time World Junior Champion and gold-medalist at European Team Championships.

In 2003, the chess player won the World Junior Chess Championship and repeated his victory in 2005.

After winning  Essent Tournament 2006, Mammadyarov achieved world fame. He was the best player at the World Team Chess Championships 2009.

The national GM won the team gold medal for Azerbaijan at the European Team Chess Championship in 2009 and 2013.

Shahriyar represented Azerbaijan at the Chess Olympiads in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2016.

This year Mammadyarov won the 3rd Shamkir Chess Tournament, the Vugar Gashimov Memorial.
