National gymnasts head to Portugal

Azerbaijani gymnasts are preparing for the next competition in the 2016 gymnastics calendar -- the Anadia World Challenge Cup to be held from June 23 through June 26 in Anadia, Portugal.

The competition will be attended by two national male athletes including Oleg Stepko and Petro Pakhnyuk.

Gymnasts’ coach will be Paul Netreba, and in the judiciary the country will be represented by Rza Aliyev.

Meanwhile, last weekend the national gymnasts took part in the 32nd European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics held in Israeli Holon.

Marina Durunda, who represents Azerbaijan at Rhythmic Gymnastics events of the Rio-2016 Olympic Games, ranked 7th in the all-around, while Zhala Piriyeva, making her debut in the senior program, became the 20th.

The team consisting of Siyana Vasileva, Aleksandra Platonova, Diana Doman, Ayshan Bayramova and Elif Zeynep Celep reached the finals with 5 ribbons and took the 8th place.

Ilaha Mammadova, Veronika Hudis and Zohra Aghamirova represented the country at the competitions among the juniors. Ilaha and Veronika ranked 8th in the final exercises with a hoop and a rope respectively. In team competitions, young gymnasts also took the 8th place among 36 countries.
