Baku lights green for Formula 1-VIDEO

The long-awaited Baku Grand Prix will at least light green to racers of the exciting competition today, on June 17, promising to be stick on minds for a number of milestones.

Today thousands of tourists and residents of the capital as well as millions of fans behind the screen will hear the humming and roaring noise of sporting cars driving along the picturesque Baku, also known as the City of Winds.

Baku will present a Herman Tilke designed circuit that winds around some of the city’s prominent historical sites. The Baku Grand Prix is the most exciting race of the year with a number of challenges that every driver dreams of winning.

An extremely narrow uphill section along the old town walls will require pinpoint accuracy, and an acceleration section of almost 2.2 km along the seaside promenade, will see the cars running flat out at very high speed - something that will create an incredible show both for pilots and race fans.

Along with Monaco and Singapore, Baku will be the third street circuit on the calendar. With a length slightly over six kilometers as an anti-clockwise layout, specialists describe this track as the most complex, entertaining and very curious, for both racers and spectators.

Force Indian pilot Sergio Perez admits that Baku track is really complicated. “There are a lot of narrow sections, which is expected from street circuit, but it is more speedy than in Monaco. I love to drive on such tracks, they contribute to a good show,” he believes.

The second longest F1 track on the calendar -- the Baku Grand Prix -- can truly differ for the excellence, the glamour and the challenge.

Baku will be a circuit of legendary corners seeped in history with cars to run through Baku’s Old Town, a UNESCO World heritage site and the city’s modern boulevards that run along the Caspian Sea, underneath the city’s stunning skyline.

The race is first in the history of the country, but Azerbaijan believes that with its previous experience gained during the grandiose Baku 2015 European Games last year, the country will cope with this international project at the highest level.

Over and above, everything is ready to welcome the much anticipated pilots and tourists.

About 30,000 people will experience adrenaline of the race from the stands: up to 15,000 will be watching the race, sitting in the stands, and the rest 15,000 will have a chance to watch the royal race standing.

Safety barriers around the circuit have been installed to ensure the smooth and safe passage for residents during the race week. Between June 14-16, the roads encompassed by Baku City Circuit will be entirely closed to traffic to ensure the completion of the final preparatory works, including the installation of safety barriers, the application of paints in accordance with the race requirements and other important and necessary works.

FIA Formula One Race Director and Safety Delegate, Charlie Whiting, who inspected the readiness of the Baku City Circuit ahead of the race said he is fully satisfied with adopted security measures, assuring that all the necessary measures have been taken.

Organizers have tried to eliminate all the problems associated with traffic to ensure an access of spectators to the track, grand stands and F1 village during the Grand Prix of Europe.

Moreover, buses and designated metro stations will operate for 20 hours each day, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM, while buses #65, #5 and #53 will operate at 5, 3, and 6 minute interval respectively.

Formula 1 is not a safe sport. The speed is as excited as it’s dangerous. Injuries, fractures, dislocations are a fairly frequent manifestations of this sport. In addition, mass events, a large crowd of people on the boulevard, the crowd at concerts of world stars and Baku hot summer can bring a lot of "surprises" for medical staff.

However, health safety of pilots and spectators will also be under the supervision of a specialists, provided by Baku City Emergency and Urgent Medical Aid Station with some 27 brigades of doctors to be available during the race.

Tourists may also not worry about banks and currency exchange services, as 90 branches of 34 banks in the vicinity of the Baku City Circuit will operate from 09:00 in the morning until 21:00 in the evening between June 10th-21st.

In addition banks such as Ofis 24 branch of Bank Respublika, located at 67 Neftchilar Avenue and the M?rk?z branch of D?mirBank, located at 111 Nizami Street, will be open 24 hours a day to tourists and residents throughout the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Organizers also prepared unforgettable entertainments for memorable pastime of visitors, confirming four action-packed days of entertainment to all ticket holders attending the inaugural race.

It seems like the weekend will thrill the visitors not only by exciting race, but also with fascinating show of three of the biggest stars in world music - Chris Brown, Enrique Iglesias and Pharrell Williams -- who will mesmerize audience with great performances.

The fabulous atmosphere in Baku will provide the perfect backdrop for the 8th round of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship during the race weekend of June 17-19, 2016 and will provide spectators with a truly unique live sporting experience.
