The 2016 Summer Olympics which is to kick off in Rio de Janeiro on August 5 is approaching day by day and the national athletes are preparing with all their might to get fully prepared for the most important competition of the year.
Azerbaijani athletes has 34 licenses for the Olympic Games, said Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov on March 9.
“It is gratifying that some licenses are won in new sports,” the minister said, noting that geography of sport in the country is expanding.
The world's biggest sporting event will feature 42 sports and Azerbaijan has secured qualifications in wrestling, gymnastics, rowing, boxing, taekwondo, athletics, weightlifter and in Paralympics sports.
In last Summer 2012 London Olympics, Azerbaijan was represented in 15 sports by 53 athletes including 39 men and 14 women, thus winning 10 medals such as two gold, two silver and six bronze medals.
