Azerbaijan succeeded to organize an unforgettable sports festival for athletes and fans, Uzbek female representative Ekaterina Khilko, who is participating in the FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics in Baku, told Trend March 5.
“The arena is wonderful,” Khilko said. “We have been here at the training camp for almost ten days, and I’d like to say that the organizational work done by Azerbaijan is simply striking. Everyone wants to make an unforgettable sport festival for spectators and athletes, and they succeeded in that.”
The female athlete said that this is the first serious competition this year, and she would like to successfully perform at it.
“It is the first serious start for us in the current year, and I think I performed not bad for the beginning,” said the female gymnast. “I won’t make plans in advance for now. It is necessary to pass to the finals, and then we'll see. There are a lot of plans this year – qualification test for the Olympic Games, several stages of the World Cup and, of course, the main start of the year is the Olympics. I think the year will be a success for me.”
After the first group of female gymnasts performed, Khilko scored 98.125 points and is ranked fourth in the qualification event.
The FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics is being held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.
Athletes from Europe, Japan, Australia and the US are participating in the World Cup, which opens the first season of the Olympic competitions.
Overall, 77 gymnasts (46 men and 31 women), who represent 17 countries, are to participate in the competitions.
Following the first day of the qualification event, the competitions will complete by finals on March 6.
