Ribery: "There was a lot of politics in Ronaldo's win"

21 January 2014 [15:45] - TODAY.AZ
France international Franck Ribéry is still disappointed about not winning the Ballon d'Or and believes there was "a lot of politics" involved in the award going to Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I won everything with the team and individually. Ronaldo didn't win anything in 2013. I'm not sad, but it's something that hurts my heart", Ribéry told Munich newspaper 'Abendzeitung'.

"I don't want to be misinterpreted. I'm proud to have made it onto the podium. But I deserved to win the award and everyone tells me I should have won", he added.

Ribéry was also surprised that there were only three Bayern players in the FIFA team of the year and that there should have been players from the Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund.

"We won five trophies and made history. Who had done that before? There should also have been players from Dortmund in the team. I don't know why (Mario) Götze or (Robert) Lewandowski weren't in there", he went on to say.

Despite the disappointment, the striker wants to look forward and focus on the forthcoming challenges he faces this year with his club and the French national team. "I'm very happy at Bayern and looking forward to the World Cup. I'm not interested in the Ballon d'Or anymore! I just want to stop thinking about it. It's finished", he concluded.
