Ancelotti's big day has finally come. During his unveiling as the Real Madrid manager, he said that it is "the most prestigious club in the world and has to win by playing spectacular football".
He thanked Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez and PSG. "I hope this is a happy season for Real," said Ancelotti, who has signed a three-season deal.
The Italian was presented in the box of honour at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he looked very nervous, in spite of his 54 years of age and extensive experience. "I'm very excited. I'm very happy to be here, at the most prestigious club in the world. I know it well and I'm very happy," he said.
Ancelotti's first remarks regarding football cleared up some of the doubts with respect to his intentions: "We want to play offensive and spectacular football. We're going to work hard to play football that makes the fans happy." Ancelotti spoke in a heavily Italian-influenced Spanish, but promised to "improve soon".
"The squad is good. It doesn't need many changes and we'll talk about what's required over the coming days," he said. "I can't tell you today which players will stay and which players will go. We'll talk about it over the next few days," he added.
He acknowledged that the tenth Champions League crown is the "big objective". "That's my responsibility, but that's not a problem for me. It's a huge motivation," he remarked.
Ancelotti played down the pressure which accompanies a seat in the Real dugout. "I don't think the pressure here is greater than at other clubs. A manager's job is to handle the pressure. Real Madrid was a dream of mine and today it's come true."
