AIBA announces its attendance in European Games in Baku in 2015

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has confirmed its involvement in the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015 after its Executive Committee unanimously accepted an invitation to take part in the competition.

The decision was made at the AIBA 2013 Extraordinary Executive Committee Meeting in Astana, held during World Series of Boxing (WSB) Team Finals in the Kazakhstan capital.

AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu confirmed the decision in a letter to European Olympic Committee (EOC) President Patrick Hickey, who like Wu is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board member.

"It is my great pleasure to inform you that the AIBA Executive Committee unanimously accepted the request of the European Olympic Committee to include the sport of boxing in the European Games Baku 2015 at its 2013 Extraordinary Executive Committee Meeting held in Astana," Wu said in his letter to Hickey.

"We are pleased to have an opportunity to work with the EOC for this prestigious event.”
