'Azerbaijani wrestlers showed high professional level at Olympics'

Azerbaijani athletes, participants of the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London returned home this morning. Athletes were welcomed by members the public and sports federations at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku.

Head coach of Azerbaijani wrestling team Firdovsi Umudov talked to reporters. "At previous Olympics, we had gold medals, and we tried very hard to win them this time as well in order to please our fans and our people," Umudov said.

He said the Azerbaijani wrestlers showed a high professional level at the Olympic Games in London. "All this was possible thanks to support, attention and care of the Azerbaijani government and personally President Ilham Aliyev. I regard this victory as a victory of the Azerbaijani people. We will try to further win," Umudov said.

Azerbaijan's Olympic team was represented by 53 athletes in 16 sports at the London Olympics.

Our athletes won 10 medals, including 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze.

Togrul Asgerov and Sharif Sharifov became the Olympic champions among free-style wrestlers; while Khetag Gazyumov won bronze medal.

Rovshan Bayramov won silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, Emin Mammadov - bronze.

Our female wrestlers also returned home with medals. Mariya Stadnik won silver medal, Julia Ratkevich - bronze.

Boxers Teymur Mammadov and Magomedrasul Majidov won bronze medals at the Olympics.

Weightlifter Valentin Hristov also won bronze medal.
