Azeri community of Hungary rejoicing over Azerbaijan’s Olympic succes

14 August 2012 [08:29] - TODAY.AZ
“Two gold medals, taken by two Azerbaijani wrestlers Toghrul Asgarov and Sharif Sharifov perked up the Azerbaijani community in Hungary. For us, these two medals are like a gulp of water for a flower in the desert,” said a Hungarian resident of the Azerbaijani origin Orhan Baylarov in an interview to AzerTAc correspondent.

“Actually, we here in Hungary had no doubt that the Azerbaijani team will take the gold. We were confident that at least once our athletes will climb to the highest step of the podium, and our eyes will be filled with tears of pride for the sounds of our national anthem. On behalf of our community, we thank our two sons for those happy moments. This is a victory for all our people, our entire state. Well done guys!” said Baylarov.

Hungarians also share the joy of Azerbaijanis. The Budapest bureau of AzerTAc received numerous phone calls, SMS and email messages of congratulations from the Hungarians, who are rejoicing together with Azerbaijanis for the success of our wrestlers. Thus, the Hungarian economist, Peter Szabo, who repeatedly visited Azerbaijan, said he is a fan of Azerbaijani athletes no less than of the Hungarian Olympians. "For me, Azerbaijanis are our brothers. I believe that Azeris are very close to Hungarians! We have common roots," he said.
