Azerbaijan moves forward in UEFA ranking

20 July 2012 [11:19] - TODAY.AZ
Thanks to the draws in the first matches of the second qualifier round of the Europa League Khazar-Lankaran and Inter scored one more point for Azerbaijan in the UEFA co-efficient table.

This season our teams have already gained six points (1 point in qualifier rounds for victory and 0.5 for a draw).  These six points should be divided into four (the number of clubs from Azerbaijan) and we get 1.500 points. This is currently our indicator this season.

Inter gained 2.5 of six points, Khazar-Lankaran-2, Neftchi-1, Baki-0.5. Two points gained in the season of 2010/11  are the record indicator of Azerbaijan.

If we take into account all five seasons, Azerbaijan has 7,041 points. We have outstripped Ireland (7000) and rose to the 34th place which we share with Moldova. Thanks to the successful performance of their clubs Moldovans managed to catch up with Azerbaijan in the UEFA co-efficient table.

Now our task is not only to get to the 34th place but also to reduce the gap from Bosnia and Herzegovina (7333) which ranks 33rd.

Under today’s scheme of distribution of club vacancies in the European cups, only the 32rd place guarantees the start to the holder of the country’s cup not from first qualifier round but from the second. Slovenia is so far 32nd with 7.333 points.
