Azeri chess player gains victory in Euro 2012 round

31 March 2012 [11:28] - TODAY.AZ

The penultimate 10th round of the men’s European chess championship has been played in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). After the refusal to continue the fighting between Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Eltaj Safarli, our only hope was linked to Vasif Durarbeli. He has a chance to get to the list of top 23 and thus gain a ticket to the world cup.

Vasif is 17th with 7 points. In the 10th round he gained quite an important victory over Croatian Ivan Saric. Durarbeyli is to play black against Russian Mikhail Kobalia in the last round today.

More experienced Rauf Mammadov and Gadir Huseynov have 5.5 and 5 points respectively and are 110th and 160th. French Loran Fressiner is the only leader with 8 points.
