Foreigners must pay for Azerbaijani folklore samples

Foreign citizens must pay to use samples of Azerbaijani folklore.

On Monday, the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Cultural Committee discussed amending the Law on "Legal Protection of the Samples of Azerbaijani Folklore."

According to the proposed amendment, legal and physical entities will be obliged to get permission from the government and to pay for samples of folklore for commercial purposes, Chairman Nizami Jafarov said at the meeting.

He said the function of giving authorization may be transferred to the Copyright Protection Agency.

"This agency can monitor the process more professionally," Jafarov said.

The changes have been presented to a plenary parliamentary meeting for consideration.
