Number of road accidents increased in Azerbaijan

The State Traffic Police Office publicized the statistics of the road accidents happened in the country in the first quarter of the year.

Public affairs department said that 697 road accidents happened in the country in January-March - 204 were killed, 730 injured. Compared to the reporting period of last year the number of the road accidents increased by 180 (34.8%), the number of the dead 25 (13.9%) and injured 212 (40.9%).

Roughly 374 of the road accidents happened in Baku, 91 were killed, 379 injured. Compared to the reporting period of last year the number of the accidents, dead and injured increased by 129 (52.7%), 3 (3.4%) and 148 (64.1%).

306 of the accidents (43.9%) resulted in the runover of pedestrians. 95 pedestrians were killed, 226 injured.

17 children and teenagers were killed, 49 injured in the road accidents. 10 of the dead, 30 of the injured are pedestrians.

160 of 204 persons, who were killed in the road accidents, are men, 41 women, 533 of 730 injured persons are men, 197 women.
