Criminal case on SU-25 aircraft crash filed in Azerbaijan - UPDATE

The Azerbaijani Military Prosecutor's Office has filed a criminal case on a crash of SU-25 military plane crash in the country, spokesman for the military prosecutor's office Afraim Tahmazov said.

The employees of the investigative group are conducting a probe at the crash site and collect the remains of the aircraft, Tahmazov added.

SU-25 aircraft crashed in Kurdamir region of Azerbaijan on Thursday.

The crew is safe and no one was wounded as a result of the crash. Currently the causes of the event are being investigated, Defense Ministry spokesperso Eldar Sabiroglu said.

The military sources identified names of the pilots as Lieutenant-Colonel Zaur Yusifli and Captain Khayyam Shukurov. Supposedly, the accident occurred at a time of landing.

The plane crashed in the 5-6 km from the residential houses in the village of Sor Sor.

The press service of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan told Trend that the head of investigation department for heinous crimes Jafar Jafarov, investigators, criminologists and representatives of Terter Military Prosecutor's Office are working on the scene.

Kurdamir is located about 180 km from Baku.
