Operation of 230 cars polluting atmosphere banned in Baku

During raids conducted by the Baku City State Traffic Police Department last year, 230 cars were banned for polluting the atmosphere. During the raids, more than 24,520 cars were inspected. A high concentration of carbonic acid gas was found in the exhaust of 7,420 cars, Vagif Asadov, the spokesman of the department, told Trend.

Protocols were drawn up for the owners of the vehicles. Hasanov said 2,019 cars were inspected last year as a result of raids in 70 automobile factories and shops.

High levels of harmful substances were recorded in the exhaust of 522 engines. Administrative penalties were taken toward their owners.

By decision of the Intergovernmental Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification on Nov. 12, 1998, the carbonic acid gas content in exhaust of vehicles with gasoline engines must not exceed 3.5%.
