
On January 11, a ceremony dedicated to the World Hindi Day was observed at Azerbaijan University of Languages. Debnath Shaw, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India to the Republic of Azerbaijan took part in the ceremony. After his meeting with professor Samad Seyidov, rector of AUL, Debnath Shaw joined the ceremony devoted to the Indian culture organized by the Regional studies and International relations department of the University which was held in the Information Resource Complex (IRC) of AUL.
Taking the floor, Samad Seyidov greeted the guests, participants and expressed his pleasure to host them at AUL. He noted that the Indian language Center functions at AUL and added that every condition for learning the Indian language is created at AUL for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan.
“Today the whole world and Azerbaijan celebrate the World Hindi Day. India is the half of the world with an ancient civilization. Studying this ancient civilization in Azerbaijan is of great significance. I am very honoured that the students of Regional studies and International relations department of AUL learn the Indian language. They learn not only the language of the most ancient civilization of the world, but also the language of the nation which develops rapidly and wins the world.”
Seyidov thanked the Ambassador for his support of prof. Mukesh Garg, who came to Azerbaijan to teach the Hindi language. Shaw said that every year the World Hindi Day is celebrated in the world on the 10 th of January and expressed his deep pleasure for taking part in the ceremony. He said that this kind of ceremony is the second one held in Azerbaijan, added that, the Indian language department started to function at AUL, on October 2010. By means of this department the students will get to know the Indian language, culture and history. Shaw thanked Samad Seyidov, Jala Garibova, vice rector for International relations on their initiative in teaching the Indian language and opening the Indian language Center.
Dr. Mukesh Garg, Head of the Hindi department of AUL, said that the students successfully acquire the Hindi language. “If you go back to our 3500 years old book the “Rigveda” we get mentions of our relationship with the folks around the Caspian Sea. Foundation of Hindi department in Azerbaijan can be perceived as re-establishment of that relationship once again” Garg said.
At the end of the ceremony a short movie in the Hindi language was demonstrated, Solmaz Asgarova performed an Indian dance and Sevindj Islamova sang Indian songs. The participants tasted the Indian cuisine, as well.
