Azerbaijan, Russia will sign deal on drug trafficking control - UPDATE

Azerbaijan and Russia intend to conclude an agreement on cooperation over drug trafficking control. The document is expected to be signed during the Russian Federal Drug Control Service chief Viktor Ivanov's visit to Baku, the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend.

The visit is aimed for signing of the document on cooperation in combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors between the Russian Federal Drug Control Service and Azerbaijani Interior Ministry.

The visit includes meetings with the law enforcement agencies and clergies in Azerbaijan on the development of the Russian-Azerbaijani anti-drug cooperation.

During the visit, Ivanov is expected to meet with  National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Head Ramiz Mehdiyev, Interior Minister Ramil Usubov and the Bishop of Baku and Caspian Alexander.

The sides will discuss issues of combating the global threat of drugs, drug prevention and issues to develop mechanisms for joint activities to combat drug trafficking, the report said.
