European Court will consider Azerbaijani citizens' appeal to protect property

05 January 2011 [13:45] - TODAY.AZ
The European Court of Human Rights will consider the case of Azerbaijan citizens on Jan.13. The applicants are ten Azerbaijani nationals, holders of vouchers for their flats which are currently occupied by internally-displaced families from regions under the control of Armenian military forces, following the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the structure reported.

The applicants complain about the non-enforcement of domestic court judgments which ordered the occupants' eviction. They rely in particular on the right to a fair hearing and protection of property.

The European Court of Human Rights considers the observance of the European Convention on Human Rights by its participants, to which Azerbaijan joined. Court decisions are legally binding for States, and their implementation is monitored by the Council of Europe.
