Azerbaijan's universities to teach "Bioethics" and "Medical Law" as new subjects

A scientific symposium is underway at the Institute of Human Rights at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences to discuss implementation of UNESCO's program on bioethics in Azerbaijan.

The event has brought together chief of the UNESCO head office on bioethics Amnon Carmi, ANAS President Mahmud Karimov, MPs, academics and professionals.

UNESCO experts will arrive in Baku in January to implement the plans of Azerbaijan's participation in programs to develop innovative scientific fields. This applies to such pressing issues as genetic engineering, the use of GMO products, organ transplantation, contraception, euthanasia problems and other issues.

In her remarks to the event, MP Aytan Mustafayeva said Institute of Human Rights and UNESCO will sign an agreement under which "Bioethics" and "Medical Law" will begin to be taught as new subjects in universities across the country.
