AUL students meet with professional translator teachers

On December 16, the students of the Translation School of the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) held a meeting with the teachers engaged in professional translation. Gilinjkhan Bayramov, professor of the Translation theory and oral practice of the English language department, Charkaz Gurbanli, assistant professor of the lexicology and stylistics department of the German language, professor Alakbar Gubadov, the head of the Translation of the German language department, Huseynagha Amirov, a teacher of the Spanish language department, a poet-translator Sabir Mustafa, and Yusif Savalan, a skilful translator of the poems written in the German language and a  teacher of the German language department, and the students took part in the event.

Assistant professor Vilayat Guliyev, the dean of the Translation School of AUL introduced the teachers to the students, and spoke of the significance of holding such meetings with professional translators.

Professor A. Gubadov spoke of the peculiarities of his translations from the German language and added that he had translated “Divan of West and East” by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (German poet), and he recited some pieces of the poem, as well. He pointed out the importance of translating bayatis (a kind of Azerbaijani poem recited by common people), and songs into foreign languages, advised the students to read more books.

Sabir Mustafa, an author of more than sixteen books, touched upon the current state, and gaps in the field of Translation in Azerbaijan. He recited some some translated poems by himself.

Gurbanli spoke on the responsibilities of the translation profession. He said that there were many restrictions in the period of the Soviet Union in the field of Translation. He added that the one is engaged in this profession should study the language with its peculiarities.

H.Amirov said that nowadays Spanish and latin languages were widely spread all over the world, and said that he had translated poems by Samad Vurghun and  Gabil into Spanish. These translations were published in Mexico.

Y. Savalan, spoke of the poems translated into the German language. It should be mentioned that his poems were published in the anthology in Germany, as well.

Professor K. Bayramov said that he had been worked in the field of Translation since 1970 and had translated many literary works by Azerbaijani poets up to now.

The ceremony was followed by the questions of the students.
