Employers in Azerbaijan to insure employees against disabilities

Labor contracts in Azerbaijan will include an article on the mandatory insurance of employees against disabilities resulting from occupational accidents and occupational diseases, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Social Policy Committee Chairman Hadi Rajabli  said earlier this week.

The committee discussed and recommended for consideration to parliament the inclusion of the article in the Azerbaijani labor code.

"These additions will strengthen the social protection of employees," Rajabli said.

According to the Azerbaijani State Labor Inspectorate, 250 occupational accidents took place in Azerbaijan in 2009, 65 of which fell to the construction sector. Last year, this sector recorded 32 fatalities. Some 48 people were injured in this sector.
