Azerbaijani Finance Ministry imposes financial sanctions on eight NGOs

Only 1,114 of 2,467 nongovernmental organizations (NGO) registered in Azerbaijan presented reports to the Finance Ministry, chief of the ministry’s department for accounting policy Elkhan Jafarov said.

He said that only 831 of the NGOs presented reports in time. "The otherswere late,” he said.

Jafarov added, that 1353 NGOs did not present reports to the Finance Ministry. According to him, letters were sent to the NGOs that had not presented reports.

Some of the letters were delivered, others returned.

“As the addresses of 169 NGOs are not known, it was impossible to sent letters,” he said.

Elkhan Jafarov also said that the Finance Ministry imposed sanctions on eight NGOs.

“But next year the sanctions will cover all NGOs failing to present reports,” he said.

The department chief did not publicize the names of the NGOs that undergone sanctions.
