Frederick Starr: Mstislav Rostropovich was talking only about Baku when we last met

“During my last meeting with Mstislav Rostropovich, he was talking only about Baku. He has spent years of youth in this city, and recalled these years as most unforgettable of his life”, Frederick Starr, Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and a Research Professor at Johns Hopkins University said during the opening ceremony of the Sixth International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Baku.

"I knew world-famous Rostropovich well. We were introduced to each other 40 years ago. He was a friend of Heydar Aliyev, great son of the Azerbaijan people. And I think, the organization of such a festival in his native city deserves approval," Mr. Starr emphasized.
