Serious deficiencies found in parole system in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Justice Ministry has discussed serious shortcomings in the parole system.
Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov issued the statement at a plenary session of the Supreme Court today.

The court transferred materials to the Judicial and Legal Council to start disciplinary proceedings against indited judges. According to the materials, irregularities were uncovered in document preparations, as were unreasonable decisions in the application of the parole system.

The court identified objectives at the meeting to rectify the situation, including procedures to study international experience and establishing a working group comprising representatives of the relevant entities to coordinate work on strengthening transparency and objectivity.

The meeting was attended by the State Prison Service, the general prosecutor, judges and the Judicial and Legal Council.
