
Director of the Alexandria Library (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) Ismail Serageldin will discuss potential cooperation in Baku during his upcoming two-day visit to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev said.
Serageldin will visit Azerbaijan on Nov. 19 upon the invitation of the Azerbaijani government. He will visit the Azerbaijani Diplomatic Academy, the Suzanne Mubarak School in the Absheron district, and the State Family, Women and Children Committee, the diplomat said.
His visit agenda also includes a trip to the second largest city of Azerbaijan - Ganja - where he will take a trip to the Agricultural Academy and meet with the institution's management. During the visit, Adviser to the Egyptian President on the Sciences and Education Ismail Serageldin will hold meetings with officials and discuss strengthening cooperation.
The Egyptian Alexandria Library was built over 2,500 years ago. It was regarded as one of the major research centers of its time. Archimedes and Euclid both worked in the library. The Egyptian government granted a special status to the library, and its leaders report personally to the president. The Alexandria University placed 147th in the Times' 2010 ranking of the best universities in the world. It is thought to be one of the most prestigious universities in the Middle East.
