15 YEARS AGO, ABOUT 300 PEOPLE DIED IN BAKU METRO

28 October 2010 [12:06] - TODAY.AZ
Today marks 15 years since a major accident on a stretch between the Ulduz and Nariman Narimanov stations of a Baku metro.
On October 28, 1995, a fire that broke out in the fourth car of the train No. 21 claimed 292 lives with over 400 people sustaining burns and injuries.

The long-running investigation found that the fire resulted not from an act of terrorism, but rather technical errors made by train driver Asif Bayramov and dispatcher Rauf Abbasov. They both were sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The accident in the Baku Metro was recorded by the "Guinness Book of Records” as the largest in the history of subways in the world.
