Railway fares in Azerbaijan to be raised?

Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov Tariffs said railway fares should be raised withouting citing any exact figure. According to him, it is necessary, because the railways must carry out self-financing to address their own social problems, ensure development of its technical base.

At present, the cheapest transportation in Azerbaijan is carried out by the railroad.

"The cost price of rail transport is very high. Annually subsidies are granted for freight transportation by railway, which is unacceptable in fact. (...). Therefore, the tariffs should be increased," Mammadov said.
