
Azerbaijan actively cooperates with the Venice Commission, the Supreme Court chairman Ramiz Rzayev said today at the opening of an international conference on the Azerbaijani Parliament elections, held in the Supreme Court jointly with the Venice Commission's representatives.
The Venice Commission's recommendations have been taken into account in the process of improving the Electoral Code according to international standards. Rzayev said that during consideration of complaints in relation to the parliamentary elections they work with the European Court.
"For us the Venice Commission's three basic principles - democracy, human rights and supremacy of law - are very important," Rzayev said.
Elections to the Azerbaijani parliament are scheduled for Nov. 7 Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
The Venice Commission is represented at the conference by a delegation headed by the Venice Commission's Secretary Thomas Markert.
