"One world – thousand nations" project to be hosted in Goychay region

Pomegranate is a unique local fruit, holding specific place in Azerbaijani culture and cuisine. Azerbaijan is the only country in the world, where all sorts of pomegranate are grown and Goychay region of the country has been known through history as pomegranate industry center of Azerbaijani agriculture.

Unfortunately, Armenian nationalists challenge this and declare pomegranate as a “symbol of Armenia”. For this reason it is necessary to promote pomegranate collectively as a civilization value. Numerous fruit and vegetable agriculture fairs take place each year in Europe and North America. At the same time, promotion of pomegranate culture in Azerbaijan is subject to the local level only, while young generation and international audience is often out of these promotion efforts.

With this purpose, “Goychay Development Center” Public Union in cooperation with the Civil Society Support Club, are planning to organize international pomegranate festival in Goychay in November 2010. Memorandum on this issue was signed in Erzurum (Turkey) in April this year by heads of the both NGOs. The project is placed in “Volunteer activities” and “Youth for the future” frameworks will take one week and guests from Russia, Georgia, Romania, Italy and Turkey will take part. This framework will allow to bring together international and local youth around subjects of tolerance, brotherhood and volunteer activities. The project is supported by the EU Youth Program, EU Education and youth programs Directorate and State Planning Agency by the prime-minister of the Turkish Republic.
     
The name of the project is “One world – thousand nations” and pomegranate is to be the project symbol. The project is also supported by “IRELI” Public Union, Goychay region local authorities, Goychay Olympic Center, “AZNAR” JSC, “Goychay Sud” OJSC. Detailed presentation on the project is planned on September 6th 2010 in Heydar Aliyev Center, Goychay.
