Azerbaijan saw drop in national domain names in August

The number of domain names in Azerbaijan’s national internet zone decreased by 217 in August, according to national registrar www.whois.az. Currently, there are 10,076 active domains in the national internet space. Most of the domestic domains, registered at the site www.whois.az, accounted for the domain *.az (9,162 domains). The number of domain reduced by 128 in a month.

Presently, 534 *.com.az, 88 *.edu.az, 1,975 *.org.az, 1,963 *.net.az and 1,953 *.int.az domains function in Azerbaijan. Over the last month, *.pp.az, *.co.az, and *.biz.az domains increased twofold and reached 49, 19 and 7 units respectively.

The number of *.info.az domains has remained unchanged – 20 units. The number of single domains such as *.mil.az, *.sumgait.az, *.zaqatala.az, *.imishli.az, *.bilesuvar.az, *.pro.az, and *.shusha.az has not changed, either.

Experts say the number of domains dropped as some of the resources do not exist anymore. Registration and maintenance of national domains cost 20 manat in Azerbaijan.
