Azerbaijani official: Media outlets have exclusive authority in covering parliamentary elections

Media outlets have exclusive authority in covering the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, Head of Azerbaijan's Presidential Administration's Socio-political Department Ali Hasanov said during courses for members of the district election commissions.

"All other agencies are required to pass registration to monitor the elections, however, it's enough for the media outlets to show an appropriate certificate and observe the elections," Hasanov added.

Hasanov stressed that the media outlets should do their work without interfering in the electoral process. "The media outlets' authorities do not give them a reason to obstruct the election process," he said.

Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) started holding the courses to improve skills of chairmen of the district electoral commissions on Aug.23.

The parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7.
