Azerbaijani top official: Bloggers are not journalists

Bloggers are not journalist with any of the Azerbaijani media outlets, Azerbaijan's Presidential Administration Public and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov told media today.
"There are many people in the world who have computers, as well as blogs. Defending each blogger as a journalist is wrong from journalists' rights point of view," Hasanov said, commenting the issue of arrested Azerbaijani bloggers Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli.

Milli and Hajizade were accused of Article 221.2.1 (hooliganism) and Article 127.2.3 (deliberately causing minor harm to health) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

The Baku Sabayel District Court sentenced Milli to 2.5 years in prison and Adnan Hajizadeh to 2  years in prison on Nov. 11, 2009.
