Apple gardens on fire in Guba

16 August 2010 [12:45] - TODAY.AZ
A fire in Davadabani area in Azerbaijan’s northern Guba region spread to apple gardens near Guba-Khinaliq highway on Aug. 15.
Four firefighting brigades of the Guba Fire Prevention Unit, as well as officers of Guba Region Police Office and the Office for Rehabilitation and Protection of Forests arrived at the scene right after the fire broke out. Measures were carried out to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby territories and forestry.

According to Director of Office for Rehabilitation and Protection of Forests Rafiq Ashrafov, the threat of spread of the flame to the forest is minimal, noting that the threat of fires has increased in the region as of late. He says the fires are mainly caused by reckless handling of fire by population.

According to early estimations, about 30 hectares of apple gardens and shrubs have burned down in the area. Guba Region Police Office and the Prosecutor's Office have launched an investigation into the fact.
