Azerbaijani museum experts join international conference in Batumi

An International Conference on the theme of Museums and Cultural Tourism wrapped up in Batumi, Georgia.

The forum was organized by Georgian ministries of culture, protection of monuments and education, Georgia's National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), Ajaria`s ministry of culture and sports and Caucasian Foundation to establish good-neighbor relations between European and Caucasian museums and define prospects for further cooperation.

The International Conference has brought together representatives of the world museum community, including Vice-President of ICOM Virgil Stephan Nitulescu. Azerbaijan was represented by culture ministry official Azada Huseynova, Head of the Museum of Carpets Roya Tagiyeva and Head of the Azeri State Arts Museum Amina Melikova.

Participants have discussed such topical issues as modern services in the field of cultural tourism and creation of museum infrastructure. They said that the cultural tourism covers familiarization with historical, cultural and geographical sights of all countries.

It is the subset of tourism concerned with a country or region's culture, specifically the lifestyle of the people in those geographical areas, the history of those peoples, their art, architecture, religion, and other elements that helped shape their way of life.
