13 August 2010 [10:21] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani aircraft flying from Baku to Istanbul skid off the runway today after landing at the Istanbul International Ataturk Airport, Turkish media reported. The plane left Baku at 10:06 (local time) and landed at 10:45 (local time). Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) will look into the cause of the accident. There were 120 passengers and crew members on board the Airbus-319 (flight number J2075). No one was injured.

"The passengers have left the plane. "At the moment, we are not having any problems," he said.

According to passengers, crew members and flight attendants operated professionally during the incident. AZAL spokesman Maharram Safarli said the cause of the accident is still unknown.

Safarli stressed that all of the passengers are safe, adding that the company will officially look into the incident. Passengers of the Istanbul-Baku flight wait for the aircraft specially sent for them, Azerbaijani Consul General in Istanbul Hasan Zeynalov told Trend.

According to AZAL's official information, the cause of the incident is that the pilot failed to adjust the speed after landing. As a result, the front part of undercarriage bent and the engine damaged. CJSC "Azerbaijan Airlines" and Turkish Civil Aviation established the commissions to look into the cause of the accident. Investigation on the case is underway.
