UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has visited Shaki, a city in the north of Azerbaijan to view its must-see places.

Bokova
visited the Palace of the Khans, the city`s landmark monument which
dates back to the 18th century. One of the most striking architectural
features of the residence is its wooden framed stained glass windows
known as "shabaka." Shabaka is a combination of hundreds of
hand-crafted pieces of wood (platino and poplar trees) so carefully
crafted that they fit together firmly without the use of a single nail.
The 2-storied building has 6 rooms, 4 corridors and 2 balconies.
The UNESCO chief watched a concert of young musicians in the Palace`s yard.
Bokova
then visited Kish village where she viewed an ancient Albanian church,
which is preserved on the government-level as a historic and
architectural monument.
The UNESCO Director General also visited Shaki-ipek silk factory, and Yukhary Caravanserai (Upper Caravanserai) monument
