Azerbaijan has granted asylum to 2,600 refugees who came from third countries, Head of State Committee on Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Ali Hasanov said.

He noted that the number of refugees from the third countries was 10,000 persons 10 years ago. Today this number reduced up to 2,600.
These are refugees mainly from Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. This number reduced as Chechen refugees leaves Azerbaijan for Turkey and Europe. Hasanov noted that the only problem about Chechen refugees in Azerbaijan is related to their identities.
“Because they have come to Azerbaijan illegally. We have appealed to Russia for help in determination of their identities many times”.
