15 June 2010 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
Beach season is officially launched in Azerbaijan starting June 15.
Deputy Chief Doctor of the Baku Central Ambulance and Emergency Care Station Rauf Nagiyev said 12 ambulance brigades are on duty on local beaches. All of them are equipped with necessary medicines to provide skilled medical care in an emergency.

In May-June, the Integrated Monitoring Agency carried out microbiological examination of samples of seawater taken from different places on the coast of the Absheron Peninsula.
The examination revealed an increased amount of E. coli in samples of sea water taken on coast of Sumgait (9500-180400 units / liter), as well as near the Shikhov beach on the Absheron peninsula (4500-11200 units / liter) and Sahil beach (3000 -13800 units / liter).

The agency said the seawater is clean and suitable for swimming in Novkhani, Pirshagi, Nardaran, Bilge, Buzovna, Mardakan, Shuvalan beaches. The water near Sumgait city of, Shikhov and Sahil beaches was more contaminated with bacteria due to the dumping at sea of sewage in the period from 2007 to 2009.

Currently, 16 modern water treatment devices have been installed along the Absheron coast. The devices help to make the seawater in Absheron coastal areas clearer from year to year.
