
The Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) is implementing a special two-week program Baku Summer Energy School, designed for foreign specialists in the diplomatic, oil, and other spheres four years running, Director of Advanced Foreign Service Program at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Fariz Ismailzade said.
He said that this program will be implemented jointly with SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) for two years running. Specialists from different countries arrive in Baku to study in a sumer school annually. They participate in the program of the Diplomatic Academy, along with colleagues from Azerbaijan, he said.
"The project can not be viewed as a scientific conference, but as a school, because participants learn a lot and get useful information, primarily, on the energy of the region, in the process of training," Ismailzade said.
Representatives of the Bahamas, the U.S., Russia, Turkey, Italy, Norway, Poland, France, Romania, Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Mozambique and Japan will arrive to get education at a summer school this year. The criteria for selection of students was primarily the education of participants associated with the sphere of energy.
The staff of teachers this year includes professors from the University of Texas (U.S), three professors from Harvard University (U.S), a representative of professors of Haifa University, a professor at U.S University, representatives of oil companies TOTAL and SOCAR, former senior employee of SHELL, and now professor at U.S University, Rice.
Ismailzade said that politicians, including Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev, head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev will deliver lectures on policy.
"Participants of the project have the unique opportunity to ask questions to teachers and policy makers in determining energy policy in the region, in living communication," he said.
Ismailzade said that most participants come to Azerbaijan to explore energy resources in the Caspian region. So, the mixed staff of teachers, including Azerbaijani representatives, accounts for this problem.
"Two days will be devoted to the development of state concern SOCAR's strategy, future projects and prospects of a large oil company," he said.
During the two-week courses in summer school, participants will familiarize with the culture and sights of Azerbaijan, regions of the country, Ismailzade said.
