Based on the microbiological analysis carried out by the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry in coastal areas, where treatment facilities were installed in May and June, pollution level in 9 beaches out of 12, does not exceed the permitted limit, Ministry Spokesman Irada Ibrahimova said.
The ministry has established 16 units of modular type treatment plants in areas that are not part of the sewer network of the Absheron peninsula, in the coastal zone settlements of Bilge, Buzovna, Mardakan, Pirshagi, the beach, "Amburan, as well as in Novkhani and Jorat. Local purification plants of modular type were also installed on the beaches Novkhani, Pirshagi, Nardaran, Bilge Mardakan and Shuvelan. The level of water pollution on those beaches is in the normal range.
Ibrahimova said, the ministry revealed microbiological contamination in locations where purifying equipment was not installed (Shikh settlement in the Sabael and Sahil settlement in the Garadagh). "The presence of E. coli in the water exceeds the permitted limit in these areas due to the fact that sewage is not treated in accordance with the standards and norms," she said.
Based on the recent studies conducted in areas where module type treatment facilities were installed, these areas (except Sumgait, beaches of Shikh and Sahil settlement) are suitable for a beach holiday at the beginning of the summer season. The ministry installed plants under the Azerbaijani President's decree.
