"Mountain rivers supplying the Kur River with water causes a threat of increase in the water level in the Mingachevir Lake. If to build a reservoir on the Ganikh River around the Ajinohur Lake, it will be possible to preserve the situation under control," Azerbaijani minister of ecology and natural resources Huseyngulu Baghirov told journalists today.
"It is necessary to monitor dams and strengthen them. Operations are underway to restore damaged dams and to address social problems of the population. Now we study the situation in the delta of the Kura River, as well as hold inspection of the old river channels of Kura and Araz. Our team is currently preparing a plan of further measures. Deepening the bottom, expansion of the delta of the Kur River will have a positive impact on the situation," Baghirov said.
