Azerbaijan starts Month of Human Rights Protection

Month of Human Rights Protection has started May 18 on ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova's initiative.
"The goal of the Month, to be held throughout Azerbaijan from May 18 to June 18 is to determine what progress has been made in this sphere and find ways of solving existing problems on human rights", Office of the Ombudsman said today.

Within the month it is planned to hold a number of important events. "There will be organized various activities and discussions related to the progress and problems in last year's activity of the agencies, as well as government bodies, NGOs related to human rights," said in the statement.

During the month, it is also planned to conduct enlightenment activities for the application of National Plan of Action on the protection of human rights.

"Enlightenment activities on human rights will be intensively continued in the regions, and representatives of various groups will be involved in these activities. The Eighth International Conference of Ombudsmen on "Human Rights and the Environment: Legal and ethical aspects of climate changes" will be the most important event of the month.

The conference, to be held in Azerbaijan on June 17-19 with the support of UNESCO, will be dedicated to Human Rights Day and the Year of Ecology. Ombudsmen from various countries, representatives of international organizations will address at the conference, the meeting will be attended by experts in the sphere of ecology and human rights, views will be exchanged, said in a statement.
