
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Secretary General of the OIC Youth Forum Elshad Isgandarov signed a deal which grants status of international organization to the Forum which will cover the entire Eurasian region during the 37th session of the OIC Foreign Ministers in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, delegates from 57 member states, a number of international organizations with observer status at OIC attended the signing ceremony. Under the contract, the headquarters of the Centre will be located in Baku. The Centre will deal with coordination of OIC YF programs with the OIC member states in the CIS area and work with young people of the Muslim communities of the CIS countries, Central and East Europe. The Centre will become the first OIC institution to be hosted by Azerbaijan.
The Centre will provide an opportunity for closer cooperation between Azerbaijan and OIC and its specialized and affiliated bodies.
In his speech to plenary meeting of the Foreign Ministers’ session, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov praised the Forum’s role in achieving great success in a short time since its inception, noting its efficient work in enhancing role of the youth component of the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
He also noted that the fact that Azerbaijan will host OIC Youth Forum Center which will cover over 25 countries, shows that the country actively cooperates with the organization. OIC YF was founded in 2005 with headquarters located in Istanbul.
