Water levels in Kura River has reached all-time high in 100 years

18 May 2010 [13:15] - TODAY.AZ
The water conductivity in the Kura is 2415cu m/sec. This is the highest indicator in the past 100 years, President of Melioration and Water Management OJSC Ahmad Ahmadzadeh said.

According to him, over 1000 cu m/sec water flows into the Kura from Araz.

“The water level in the mountainous rivers has also risen. All this impacts the water level in the Kur,” he said.

Ahmadzadeh noted that there is no problem from Zardab region towards Sugovushan and Novruzlu villages of Sabirabad.

“The problems begin after the Araz and Kura interflow. The earth mounds filled with water for seven months have been softened, this also creates difficulties,” he said.

Ahmadzadeh said the forces, technical equipment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Interior Ministry and Defense Ministry had been sent to the site, the dam reinforcement would continue for 24 hours.

According to him, though no disaster happened on May 7-11, the measures continue. Ahmad Ahmadzadeh said the situation was still dangerous around Sarisu lake.

“The rise of water level of the Kur has also caused the rise of the level of the lake. The dams have been washed off. Reinforcement of dams continues,” he said. He said the delta of the Kur was being cleared of the silt.
