28 April 2010 [15:28] - TODAY.AZ
The Algerian Religious Affairs Ministry intends to develop an agreement on the exchange of students with Azerbaijan, Minister Bu Abdullah Gulam Allah said.
"We plan to invite Caucasus Muslims Organization (CMO) head Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade and some representatives of Azerbaijani universities to discuss arrangements for the exchange of students and leaders of science," Gulam Allah, who represented  his country at the two-day summit of religious leaders in Baku, told Trend.

The Baku World Religious Leaders Summit held in April 26-27 was attended by 250 representatives of various confessions from 35 countries worldwide. Participants of the summit called on traditional religious communities to confront extremism and terrorism.

He said Azerbaijan and Algeria have numerous areas of cooperation, in which science may also be included. For example, Algeria can thought Azerbaijani students wishing to learn the Islamic law and religious sciences at its universities.

Scientific exchange of students, which is scheduled to start shortly, will be a good contribution to the awareness of countries, Gulam Allah believes.

Regarding the role of religious dialogue in resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Gulam Allah said if the Armenian Church and the Azerbaijani Spiritual Directorate will sign an agreement, then it will bring benefits. However, the truce and mutual understanding will continue to be impossible if the Armenian Church continues to say that Nagorno-Karabakh is Armenian territory, although historically belonged to Azerbaijan, he added.

Religious leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia signed a declaration on the basis of a trilateral meeting in Baku. The document says that the religious leaders have a special opportunity to appeal to those values that are very close to believers.

Head of the Caucasus Moslems Clerical Office Sheikulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill met within participation in the World Summit of world religious leaders.

"The fact that representatives of different religions met and agreed on many important issues is an important signal to all believers," Kirill said.

The Patriarch expressed the hope that these signals will contribute to reconciliation, reduce tension in the region and create a good atmosphere for political leaders in order to come to an agreed outcome taking full responsibility for the political settlement of the conflict.
