Police department: 15.3% of crimes committed in Baku is heinous

The Head Police Department of Baku held an extended operational meeting on the results of the 1st quarter of 2010.
"Of the 2,602 crimes recorded in Baku during the first three months of this year, 15.3% are heinous and extremely heinous," Deputy Chief of Head Police Department of Baku , General- Major Elkhan Hasanov said to a meeting on the results of the 1st quarter of 2010.

According to Hasanov, of recorded 2,206 crimes, 84.7% are less heinous and dont present great threat to the society. "As a result of preventive measures, compared with last year, the number of premeditated murders decreased by three facts (23.1%), brigandage - four (12.9 %), robberies - 12 (16%), intentional infliction of less serious damage to health - five (14.3%), crimes related to fraud - nine (4.6%), kidnapping - three (4%), extortion using threats - one (20%t), as well as theft of personal property - 16 (2.5%)," he said.

According to him, during the first three months of this year, the number of assassination attempts remained stable (six facts), but the fact of rape was not committed. "The overall crime detection rose by 3.2% to 79.6% compared to the same period of last year. Revealing heinous crimes increased by 2.6% to 77.5%. In general, 61.4% (in 2009, 54.5%) of crimes that occurred under suspicious circumstances was revealed," Hasanov said.

According to Hasanov, of 704 reported crimes against the person, together with criminal cases adopted in execution last year, 687 were revealed, making up 95.7% (in 2009, 94.4%). "However, together with the criminal cases, taken into execution last year, were disclosed all ten of the premeditated murders facts, 87.5% of attempted murder, 68.4 of brigandage, as well as 72.3 - robberies. During the reported period, were exposed 10 groups of 29 people who committed 28 brigandage and robberies, as well as three groups of five people, robbed 11 apartments," said the deputy chief.

According to General- Major, as compared to the same period of last year, the disclosure of crimes related to illegal trafficking and sale of drugs decreased by 2.6% and 15% respectively.

"Active search measures were taken in connection with the search of the accused. Thus, 236 of the 598 offenders were arrested, which makes up 39.5% (in 2009, 39%). Compared with the same period of last year, the number of search activities decreased by 110 facts," Hasanov said.
