Ecology Minister revealed the reasons for landslides in Azerbaijan

The main cause of landslides in the territory of Azerbaijan is a semi-nomadic animal husbandry, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov told journalists today.

"Many countries have refused the principle of semi-nomadic animal husbandry (ie, allocation of winter and summer pastures for livestock), which although saves feed of livestock, but leads to the destruction of forests and grasslands," - the minister said.

According to him, as a result of the increasing amount of livestock in the country on a semi-principle, the land is subjected to erosion and losing its protective cover and so landslides are observed.

As other causes of landslides Bagirov called oil and other wastes that have been preserved since the Soviet period, "but now intensive operations are underway to cleanse them." At the same time, the minister noted that Baku and Absheron Peninsula don't occupy a significant place on the map of landslides.
