The 12-member expert group on environmental performance of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is in Azerbaijan for a preparatory mission.

As part of the visit the UN experts will hold meetings with representatives of state and non-governmental organizations, conduct a fact finding mission of the 2nd Environmental Performance Reviews Program, Azerbaijan.
The draft report is expected to be reviewed by the Expert Group on Environmental Performance on October 2010, and peer-reviewed and adopted by the Committee on Environmental Policy at November 2010 session in the presence of high-level officials from Azerbaijan.
Environmental performance reviews assess a country's efforts to reduce its overall pollution burden and manage its natural resources; to integrate environmental and socio-economic policies; to strengthen cooperation with the international community; to harmonize environmental conditions and policies throughout Europe and North America; and to contribute to sustainable development in the UNECE region.
