Azerbaijani Commander: Turkish gendarmerie command played major role in formation of internal troops

The Azerbaijani Internal Troops did a great job in the name of the state and the statehood, Azerbaijani Internal Troops Commander General Lieutenant Zakir Hasanov said today.

"Azerbaijani President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev has highly appraised their service and combat activity," the commander said.

"The Internal troops have a high combat readiness and discipline," Hasanov said.

He said that the Turkish gendarmerie command played a major role in the formation of the internal troops.

"In 1997, the Azerbaijani Internal Troops and the Turkish Gendarmerie Command signed a joint protocol on National Leader Heydar Aliyev's own initiative and direction. A great work was done under the document. The Turkish Gendarmerie Command has great merits in the fact that service and combat training of internal forces is high," Hasanov said.

Turkey's Gendarmerie Command renders a great help in teaching and training of officers and the improvement of combat activities, he added.  

Azerbaijan marks March 12 as the Internal Troops Day. Today, the Internal troop's leadership and personnel visited Heydar Aliyev's grave in the Alley of Honor and Martyrs' Alley.

The Internal Troops military units will hold events on the occasion of the anniversary of its foundation.
